London’s Metropolitan Police Service will not take any action against comedian Jo Brand after she joked about throwing battery acid at politicians.
Police opened an investigation Friday into the comments Brand made on BBC Radio 4’s Heresy show. Brand made the remarks during a conversation about left-wing activists throwing milkshakes at conservative European Parliament candidates, including Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage.
To that end, Brand said:
Certain unpleasant characters are being thrown to the fore, and they’re very, very easy to hate, and I’m kind of thinking, why bother with a milkshake when you could get some battery acid?
That’s just me, sorry, I’m not gonna do it, it’s purely a fantasy, but I think milk shakes are pathetic, I honestly do. Sorry.
Farage responded to Brand’s joke, saying: “This is incitement of violence and the police need to act.”

Brand did say during an appearance at Henley Literary Festival, “Looking back on it I think it was a somewhat crass and an ill-judged joke.”
